INSTITUTE OF LIVING RECEIVES $4.2 MILLION LEGACY GIFT

The Institute of Living's (IOL) proud tradition of expert clinical care has been recognized with a $4.2 million gift from the estate of an anonymous grateful patient.  The gift reflects thoughtful planning by the donor in appreciation for compassionate care.  Born in the 1920s, the donor suffered a severe breakdown in her 20s.  She was treated at the IOL with insulin shock treatments, and her family recalls her saying that the IOL "gave her back her life."  Legacy gifts have played an important role in the history of the Institute of Living, including the creation of the Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center.


HARTFORD HOSPITAL MARKS ANOTHER SURGERY MILESTONE

A team at Hartford Hospital became the first in the state to perform a single incision, robot-assisted gallbladder surgery recently approved by federal regulators.  Read more about this remarkable minimally-invasive surgery.

Flight Night to Benefit LIFE STAR

Join us June 7th for Flight Night, hosted by The Young Leaders Advisory Council of Hartford Hospital to benefit LIFE STAR.  Enjoy an evening of locally brewed beers, hearty foods and networking, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.  Register here.

Laughter on the Brain

A comedy event at City Steam in Hartford on May 24th from 6-10 p.m.  Proceeds benefit the Connecticut Brain Tumor Allliance, which recently pledged $100,000 to Hartford Hospital.  Reception with open bar and food from 6-7:30 p.m., followed by a comedy show until 10 p.m.  Tickets are $60.  Register here.

With that motivation, Sharon Poupart made a wonderfully generous gift to Hartford Hospital to support families and patients of the hospital’s heart rhythm management program.  Specifically, her gift will provide “education and comfort” to patients who have had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implanted to regulate heart rhythm.  more
